THE COMING OUT

From the records of the Knights of the Golden Circle

They drew a circle and shut us out.

In vain, they thought they’d won by rout

But men of God, with wit to win.

Drew a larger circle and shut them in.

A very strange thing happened on May 19, 1948 at Lawton, Oklahoma.  A very old gentleman who was going by the name of  Col. J.Frank Dalton claimed to be over 107 years old came public and released an incredible, almost unbelievable tale regarding a very secret Southern underground organizational known as the “Knights of the Golden Circle”.    Frank Dalton claimed to be the original, famous outlaw and desperado affectionally known as “ Jesse  James”, who’s Christian name was Jesse Woodson James of Kentucky.   Mr. Dalton claimed that as a result of his legendary past as Jesse James it was necessary for him to stage a fake death way back in1882 so as to be free of the mystic and legendary tales for which he was becoming famously known and wanted.  He claimed in truth that over the years he assumed over 73 different personalities or aliases, some of which had a great impact on the history of this great country.

One of the more mysterious things about this time period is the fact that there seemed to be many Jesse and Frank James’s running around different parts of the county causing all type of mischief.  Many of these other muderous unscrupulous individuals took advantage of their assumed namesakes reputation to do many dishonorable acts, including unmanly murders and other outrageous crimes, all in the name of the “James Gang”.  This is not meant to presume that the real Jesse and Frank James were angels, no, not by any stretch of the imagination. The real James gang killed many of these imposters and actually staged the accepted cowardly murder of Jesse James in St. Joseph, Missouri.

They had to spin and work it so the history books today read quite differently than what actually happened; but given the times, circumstances, and the fact that a number of these thugs, border ruffians and downright dishonorable backstabbers were using and hiding behind the fear and fame of “Jesse James” at the time.  It was conflicting considering the important, vital work of the Confederate Underground Army which he Jesse, along with Quantrill, headed., So what actually happed is quite understandable.

For the sake of this article at times I will refer to this particular gentleman as JWJ.

Click on the image for view of image separate screen

It was said that the so called James Gang, Quantrill’s Guerillas led by the famous William Clarke Quantrill, and the Missouri Confederate Irregulars under General Marmaduke or General J. O. Shelby, where nothing more than a secret underground Confederate Army operating secretly throughout the South and Southwestern

United States.  This was the same Gen. Shelby that led his troops into Mexico to help the proclaimed French foreign leader, Emperor Maximilian. Unfortunately Gen. Shelby’s expedition proved to be a disaster and it was necessary for the Knights of the Golden Circle to send in an experienced guerilla force under Col. Jesse W. James and William Quantrill to rescue what was left of Shelby’s Army around 3,200 men. It was also said that the Hapsburg Jewels and heirlooms entrusted to Maximilian by Napoleon Bonaparte

including the Emperor’s personal wealth and a great Aztec treasure vault,  were secured by the Confederate’s and moved into a cavern in a very large and famous peak in the San Andre’s range of New Mexico. Benito Juarez, the liberator of Mexico and his so-called patriots captured Emporer Maximillian and executed him and his entire staff by firing squad.

After the close of the Civil War the Knight’s of the Golden Circle moved very quickly to establish a foothold in very profitable businesses throughout the country.  They set up movies houses, livery stables, a clever ploy, mining companies, timber companies and railroad contracting operations.  They even started a chain of drug stores, not to shabby as its hard to fight a second civil wall without a good source of drugs. Later on they moved into the banking business, wall street brokering, money laundering and manufacturing.  They would deposit large sums of money in K.G.C. banks, insure the deposits thru Wall Street Brokers and Bankers and turn around, rob the money back and of course collecting the full amount from the surety insurance companies.

They even continued the practice that they were most famous for which was stealing illegal contraband and of course more sophisticated forms of robbery, a trade that they had perfected into a science.

Every venture had a military responsibility and specific purpose.

A grand plan, so to speak.

Does all this sound like a bunch of hicks running around trying to stir up trouble, or does this sound like a group of well trained military men who are planning a grand battle adventure to again fight their enemies, who defeated them badly in the first

American Civil War.

All they had to do was to figure a way to finance it themselves.

Stay tuned for one of the greatest K.G.C. treasure tales of them all,

“ The Treasure of the Four Kings”

As the story continues……………………………

EDITOR'S NOTE:   The following three email articles were received by me from Keith Wills, President of the World Wide Association of Treasure Seekers  ( www.wwats.org ).  As a group of hoobyists we should ALL stick together and defend our fellow members when they have been wrongly accused by government agencies.
Treasure Hunter's Secret Manual

HERE IS SOMETHING THAT COULD STAND TO BE IN EVERY
CLUB NEWSLETTER

Here is a communication (my answer) to Don in the Michigan Club, a very dedicated bunch of detectorist and supportive of Bob and Ed's case.

Thank you Don, but few have realized what your club has and that is it is not a case of Bob and Ed anymore, but a case for the future of our hobby. Back when the Billy Shivers case was going on, the government finally dropped the charges, but only after they had established a case file to use as a precedent of "all items found on public lands belong to the government". That has been used in many such cases across the nation in the last 7 years and was used in Bob and Eds case as well, only they had no items other than junk for the government to claim as theirs.
Way too many folks in our hobby believe that what happen to Billy Shivers, Bob and Ed and several others will never happen to them. They do not realize that every case the government gets away with-- they search to set another precedent to use against us from that case. In Bob and Ed's case it is "Intent Of". Image what the government could do with that precedent in just a few short years. It may even come to the point that you could be stopped in your car on public lands with a metal detector in the trunk and be charged with "intent of". Also, what few have realized is that, in Bob and Ed's case, the federal prosecutor claim it was not neccessary to prove they were on a archeological or historical site to charge them with a ARPA (Archeological Resource Protection Act of 79) violation. If you read the law, it states it only applys to archeological or historical sites on public or Indian lands, but there are three requirements before the law applies, one of which is that they have to prove by site survey that the guys were on the site. That means not just next to it or a couple hundred yards away from it, but actually on the site itself. What is upsetting is a jury of elderly folks, mostly women that have never heard of APRA before, did not get a good explaination of the law and never heard a defense for our two guys, then judged them guilty. My point is: since the guys were found guilty and the federal prosecutor got away with not having to prove they were on the site, only proving they were on Public Lands, then they will most certainly apply this case to future cases against others. The law is plain, but in Bob and Ed's case it was successfully twisted since they had no defense.
We are wasting our time to most of those in our hobby today, for they just can't believe the government can and will do such against us, even when they know it is in writing in the case transcript. It will be too late as usual when those folks wake up to the reality if they ever do.
This is why folks like yourself and your club members support Bob and Ed, but better yet supporting the future of our hobby are such a great site to us all. Thank you and tell everyone of your club members a special thanks, not just from Bob and Ed, but from me as well and from those that really do care about this hobby and it's future. We wish all of you the best year of treasure hunting ever. Thanks again so much....Keith Wills

MY RECENT STATEMENT TO THE FORUMS

Bob and Ed Return the $500.00.....

Posted By: K. Wills <kwills@worldnet.att.net>
Date: Tuesday, 6/22/04 - 9:30 a.m.

to the FMDAC. The $500. was donated by the FMDAC in behalf of Bob and Ed's defense fund. However, after another of their board meetings, the FMDAC decided they acted in hast by sending the $500.00 donation: in short they felt Bob and Ed were guilty and publicly announce their decision. Also many of them decided they wanted their donation back, so using some of the membership, they started a "stink" campaign on the forums. Well Bob and Ed being the honest men they are, sure did not want to take any donation under false pretense, so they return the FMDAC's donation on the first of this month. You can also read comfirmation of that in the FMDAC's recent "Presidents Summer News Brief" whereby it states they did in fact recieve the check from Bob and Ed for the amount of $500.00 a few weeks ago.
Now we could go into this return check event all day long and I'm sure there are some pros and cons about it, but let me just say, that the FMDAC is still stating they are further investigating this case as they put it in their News Brief. None of us working to help Bob, Ed and this hobby have time for the FMDAC's or anyones head games. We have a serious goal to reach here that WILL benefit all detectorist and prospectors and we do not have the time to listen to decisions made about two of our own on nothing more than hearsay. Example: after the FMDAC's decision that Bob and Ed were guilty, I "CALLED" the VP of the FMDAC and spoke to him over the phone for an hour or better. After telling him some facts(in print) about this case, all he could say is: "Oh we didn't know that" or "That was never mention about their case" and "I will have to reintroduce this to the board members"! I ask him, has any of the board members had the backbone to pick up a telephone and call Bob and Ed to hear their side of the story yet? His answer was "no, not at this time!" So I ask him how such a serious decision can be made and publicly announce without getting all the facts. I also ask who on their board had read the case transcript from cover to cover. It turns out only one had scanned it, for he recieved it just days before their board meeting.
Folks such serious decisions can not be made without the facts. Think if it were you in Bob and Ed's position and the national organization slams the hammer down on you as guilty but are yet to inquire of the facts surround the case, how would you like it?
For you Cons out there; let me say it first, yes I'm president of WWATS another organization, not just national but worldwide. As a matter of fact, there are now three national organizations and two of us get along very well. We share information and support each other on most all efforts. Wasn't it the FMDAC that state we all need to work together to solve our problems in this hobby? Well so far, they're the only ones not willing to work together. You can only judge one by their actions not their words. When did the FMDAC go to Washington DC for you last, or to one of the state capitals for you or the hobby? Let us also remember that I to served for many years on the FMDAC board of directors and served for two years as VP of the organization. After my two years of service as VP, I was asked and requested to run for president of the organization. As many of the board members can still testify to, my reason for not serving another two years as president of the organization or running for the office was: "I will not waste another two years of my hard work and effort in this organization to accomplish much less that what I or anyone of you could accomplish alone in one year." In short, it was a terrible waste of time, mostly talk and very little action. I continued to support the FMDAC even after that, but after too many personal attacks and attacks on my business which is against their own bylaws, I discontinued my support. Well some may say, Keith has plenty of reason to slam the FMDAC, but if you know me you know I have always supported any and all efforts to better our hobby and have myself worked hard to do that very thing. If an organization can find only time to point the finger at someone else, accuse, or passout excuses to all, then they become a waste of time, yours and mine.
As the FMDAC will so find out, their quick decision on Bob and Ed's case will soon cost them much. All it would of taken was a fact finding effort on their part and none of this would of happen. As it is now, Bob and Ed do not need them, I sure don't need them and many more have just found out they don't need them. Well folks you have heard the FACTS here. Wonder how the FMDAC feels about this coming out, maybe they feel about this as Bob and Ed did when the FMDAC made their snap decision as an effort to short circuit the fundraiser for our guys Appeal? Keith R. Wills

WHY IS KEITH WILLS NOT A MEMBER OF THE FMDAC ANYMORE ?

For the FMDAC it's going to get worse. Yes I heard from two of the major manufacturers and they both said they were too busy to go to Va. Beach FMDAC event and most all other FMDAC events in the future. This maybe one of those hand-writings-on-the-wall as we call them for the FMDAC. Many clubs across the country are now deciding if they are staying with the FMDAC or not, and some of them have been members for many many years. If the FMDAC is not there to help our hobby or support those in it, then why are they there. It is always wise to look into or investigate cases that pop up across the nation, but in Bob and Ed's case, they made their decision off hearsay and not the facts. That within itself is a major injustice to those in our hobby by our national organization. It is bad enough to always have to fight the injustice our government agencies thrown at us, now we must fight the injustice of our own group of hobbyist! It is very disappointing and their public announcement surely killed Bob and Ed's fundraiser to afford an Appeal, which I believe was their intent. It's and ego trip if you haven't noticed. They turned on me last time I went to Washington DC to see the forest service. They ask me to allow one of them to go with me to Washington to met with the forest service, after I spent hours on the phone, paying for my flight, travel time, off work; and they wanted some of the glory of the trip. I said NO, to their offer, for when I went to Washington DC two years before I allowed them to re-inburst me for my plane fare, and motel for the trip. I thought they cared and it was a kind gesture. Well as soon as I got back, Betty Weeks president of the FMDAC at that time started her claims publicly that the FMDAC set up the meeting in Washington DC and sent me, I wasn't even an officer of the FMDAC at the time. Well that was it for me, glory grabbing jerks they were. I had spent months setting up the meeting in Washington and making the arrangements and buying the tickets to go and then I allow them to kindly pay my expenses and they announce they sent me, bull!  Who is in this for any glory other than them anyway. There is no glory, hell it cost me hundreds of dollars and lost of time on my job to support my family to make these trips, what glory? Glory has never put food on my table I assure you that, it's nothing but their ego trip they are after. Another feather in their hat they are after at the expense of others. This is when the FMDAC turned on me, after I refused  to allow them in on the meeting with the forest service. They even sent my closest friend to ask if he could go in their behalf, how dirty can one be? This is when Betty Weeks, president of the FMDAC at that time announce I was a dishonest person and don't do any business with East Texas Metal Detectors in Gilmer, TX. for they are cheaters and thieves; she announce this publicly too--a direct violation to their bylaws. Then the board refuse to answer my formal complain as a paid member of the FMDAC for many years. They refuse not only to act against Betty for this public announcement representing the FMDAC but they refused to take any action what so ever in her violating the bylaws of the organization. THAT IS WHEN I DISCONTINUED MY MEMBERSHIP OF SOME 9 or MORE YEARS WITH THE FMDAC! Besides, why support an organization that refuses to answer a members formal charges, or refuses to up hold their own bylaws??

Thanks, Keith Wills
